Northern Irish wedding cakes to watch for in 2019.
We’ve made it! It’s finally spring 2019 and wedding season is in full swing. Although I must honestly admit, I do pity any couple out there trying finish their last-minute wedding preparations whilst Game of Thrones is taking over our lives on a weekly basis!!!
So, what’s hot on the scene this year when it comes to Northern Irish Wedding Cakes ?
Well it’s fair to say there will always be room on the scene for the beautiful white showstoppers, but thankfully as a society we have left the dodgy floating square cakes adorned with too much royal icing behind!
This year however we pick up hot from the tales of last summer with the rustic buttercream cakes that are made larger than life and topped with the most delicate blooms, thanks to Harry and Meghan. But if the royal wedding wasn’t your style don’t worry there are plenty of options still out there.
Like the ever-popular geometric cake, boasting fabulous linear patterns and bold gold colours, this is the ultimate modern Centerpiece for any wedding. Not far behind in its modern twist is the botanical and succulent cake, adding some beautiful greens and coppers and making a truly unique cake to match your day.
Cakes overall are getting a make over this year; with cakes getting taller, rough finished buttercreams, coppers replacing rose golds….and the dark horse of the lot? The Gothic chick wedding cake (yes that dark horse pun was intended!). Yes, you read that right, black wedding cakes are here and by the looks of it, they could be around for a while. These cakes are ultra-chic and in vogue right now. They come in all shapes and sizes and are dressed with the most vibrant coloured roses and peonies or the most glorious gold leaf patterns. But if black’s not for you then don’t worry, on the back of this we are seeing similar styled navy or deep burgundy cakes which are just as mesmerising and on trend.
Needless to say, we are in a time where there are amazing trends on the go and the next couple of wedding seasons in 2020 look just as promising.
So, don’t be afraid to be bold and go for what you really want, and well…. if white is still your thing, then that’s ok too, we need to keep traditional class and elegance alive too!
